Inspiration and Renewal

So I took a class and taught a class and I now feel renewed and

I took the class "The Digital Quilt" taught by Lura  Schwartz Smith and Kerby Smith at The Empty Spools Seminars  at Asilomar. It was a wonderful class.  I learned a lot about digital photography, computer manipulation, fabric printing and inking. I have a long way to go before I am competent but there is so much potential.  I don't think I will ever be totally enamored of using the computer, my preferred software will always be fabric. I came home jazzed to do new stuff. This bird is one of the many pictures I took.

Two weeks later I taught for a week at Asilomar and It was a most unusual week. I always tell students that it is their class and it is up to them to decide what they want from the class. They took me at my word, this class was there to explore technique, color and have a good time. For the first time nobody chose to start a quilt, but the questions and experimentation was phenomenal. They made me think.

And then the teachers. As always it is an amazing group but the conversations were quite interesting. Gwen Marston and Freddy Moran were doing their collaboration and having a ball,  Rosemary Eichorn  has expanded her surface design expertise, Carol Breyer Fallert  had taught Jan Krentz a lot of computer wizardry and the list goes on. The energy was amazing.  So I came home and dragged out all of my paints and dyes (and cleaned out the garage in the process)  and I am going to play. Sue Rasmussen and I are going to get together this summer and we will experiment. And every day I spend  some time just drawing.

I feel renewed and inspired.

Time for a new quilt!

This quilt is of and for, my nephew Sheldon. We went to the park where he ran, jumped, slid and did every bodily contortion he could think of. It  was a busy day. I took 300 pictures.

In my quilts I always seem to back to the circle in the square. It is so elemental yet it has so many possibilities. I find I am really enjoying making units and then fitting them together, all soft curves, nothing really straight or symmetrical.
